James Faed Jnr. (1856-1920)

James was the eldest son of the artist James Faed. He was a painter in oil, but mainly watercolour, portraits, and moorland landscapes. He became interested in art at a young age but never attended art school. By the age of twenty he was exhibiting at the RSA.

He quickly discovered that the subjects of greatest attraction for him were the hills of Galloway. These he took particular delight in depicting with special regard to the varying shades of heather through the seasons, even developing his own highly effective of painting heather.

Exhibited eight pictures at the RA (1880-1902)
