George Algernon Fothergill (1868-1945)
Painter in watercolours and sporting scenes, landscapes and buildings; painter on pottery, auto-lithographer, book-place designer and experimenter in collotype and tri colour process printing. Born at Leamington on 13th May 1868. Educated at Leamington College, at Uppingham where he won several drawing prizes, and at Edinburgh University where he obtained a first class honours degree in practical anatomy. Practiced as a doctor in the Darlington area, and produced many drawing of hunting and shooting scenes. He illustrated many books including Ann Old Raby Hunt Club Album 1899 and Twenty Sporting Designs. In 1929 he was living at Cramond Bridge, West Lothian.
