 James Docharty, ARSA 1829-1878 

Born in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire; died in Egypt. Was famous for his landscape paintings. He started off as a designer for calico printing. In 1861 he gave up designing in order to concentrate on painting landscape from his studio in Glasgow. All his paintings are of Scottish views, his style is realistic, natural and true to nature. In the spring of 1876, his healt fading, he went to Egypt but died shortly after his return.
