Edwin Ellis (1841-1895)

London marine and landscape painter. Born in Nottingham where he first worked in a lace factory.

Studied under Henry Dawson and settled in London in the 1860s. Subjects were mostly coastal views in Yorkshire, Wales, and Cornwall. 

Exhibited at the RA, but more often at SS, where he showed nearly 100 works. 

In 1893 a comprehensive exhibition of his work was held at the Nottingham Museum.
