Three Principal Requisites to form a modern man of fashion.
A hand-coloured print of three men demonstrating the various fashions of the day. Fashionable dandies were a regular subject of ridicule. Rowlandson gives the ‘three principal requisites’ of the figure as speaking in slang, boxing and dressing like a coachman. Although none of these attributes was considered suitable for a gentleman, they were becoming increasingly popular, to public dismay.
